In 2008, John released his book Guitar Competence.  This book contains a massive amount of guitar knowledge compiled over John's 26 years of guitar playing and 16 years of instruction.  Guitar Competence was originally geared towards preparing students for college auditions, but is well suited to increase guitar knowledge on all levels.  Some of the materials covered are: reading, scales, modes, chords, chord scales, arpeggios, and picking exercises.
